National Tourism Award Wins for Capricorn Caves and Fun Over Fifty!

Congratulations to our Capricorn Caves team for wining SILVER for Tourist Attraction category and to Fun Over Fifty for winning GOLD for Eco-Tourism at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards last Friday night in Launceston, Tasmania! We are so proud of Capricorn Caves general manager, Amanda Hinton, and her wonderful team.

The concept of Fun Over Fifty coach tours was started by its founder Toni Brennan over 20 years ago in Yeppoon.  Based in Brisbane, the business operates 140 tours around the country partnering with over 620 tourism operators. Our destination is featured in a number of annual tours including:  7 day Capricorn Coast & Great Keppel Islander Explorer, a 10 day Heron Island and Carnarvon Gorge in Gold Class, a 15 day Grand Queensland Coast & Island Affair.

Queensland won 17 Awards (6 Gold, 8 Silver, 3 Bronze) across 21 categories, with over a quarter of the Award recipients Ecotourism Australia certified operators.

Tourism businesses must win GOLD at their relevant State Tourism Awards to be eligible for entry to the National Tourism Awards, so we are also very proud of Empire Apartment Hotel which had won Gold at last year’s Queensland Tourism Awards for Deluxe Accommodation and was up against some stiff competition at the national level.  The Ultimate Guide to Driving the Great Barrier Reef campaign which was the collaboration of 7 Regional Tourism Organisations along the GBR had also achieved Gold at last year’s QTA for Destination Marketing.
