52 Capricorn Tourism businesses Best in Queensland!

It’s official – 52 local tourism businesses from across the Tropic of Capricorn (29 Capricorn Coast, 17 Rockhampton, 6 Central Highlands) have been named as 2019 Best Of Queensland Experiences!
The Best of Queensland Experiences Program is an innovative approach to delivering a consumer-led, experience focused, destination delivered strategy for Queensland.
Tourism and Events Queensland in partnership with the Regional Tourism Organisations, the Queensland Tourism Industry Council and the Department of Innovation and Tourism Industry Development, have been thrilled to announce more than 2,400 Queensland operators across the state who have received their official 2019 results of the Best of Queensland Experiences Program.
Capricorn Enterprise chief executive Mary Carroll said “we are thrilled that our region has achieved 50% more operators identified as Best of Queensland Experiences compared to March 2018, which is thanks to hard work and collaboration by our local tourism industry.”
Operators are assessed against an independent set of criteria that incorporates online customer reviews, responds to consumer expectations and reflects industry best practice. Operators who have a live listing on the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) are assessed against 5 weighted criteria (including social media presence, consistent positive customer reviews, online booking platforms, accreditation and RTO membership) and operators require 80 points out of 100 to be identified as a Best of Queensland Experience.
Ms Carroll said “It is fantastic to see eight out of our 52 Best of Queensland Experiences achieving a top score of 100 overall, from Carnarvon Gorge to the Capricorn Caves, Rockhampton and along the Capricorn Coast. Our holiday parks can be very proud of their achievements, representing four of the eight operators reaching a top score of 100. Another 17 of our operators scored 95 out of 100 overall, which means HALF of our Best of Queensland Experiences are above 95 which is an incredible achievement!”
Operators who achieved a top score of 100 are:
- Sandstone Park Carnarvon Gorge
- Empire Apartment Hotel, Rockhampton
- Korte’s Resort, Rockhampton
- Capricorn Caves
- Fisherman’s Beach Holiday Park, Emu Park
- Villa Mar Colina, Yeppoon
- NRMA Capricorn Yeppoon Holiday Park
- Discovery Parks – Rockhampton
Tourism and Events Queensland CEO Leanne Coddington said the Best of Queensland Experiences Program was designed to benefit the entire Queensland industry.
“The Best of Queensland Experiences Program aims to support industry in delivering exceptional customer experiences across the state – leading to positive word of mouth and an increase in overnight visitor expenditure and market share,” she said.
“We’re excited to deliver the first results as part of this innovative new program and are delighted with the positive outcome for tourism operators across Queensland, including in the Capricorn region where visitors can immerse themselves in so many wonderful Queensland experiences.”
Ms Carroll said “Sail Capricornia is the ONLY business in the Capricorn region to have scored perfect customer review which is to be absolutely commended.”
Operators who are identified as Best of Queensland Experiences receive:
- Consumer advocacy by delivering exceptional experiences
- Inclusion in Tourism and Events Queensland’s preferred operator database accessed by staff when planning marketing and activity
- Prioritisation across all Tourism and Events Queensland marketing and activity including on Queensland.com
