As part of the 2019 Capricorn Enterprise Major Projects Forum, we were privileged to welcome Craig Simpson, Project Director from Laing O’Rourke Australia.
Craig has more than 20 years of construction industry experience. He is a highly experienced manager with a firm understanding of Defence Managing Contractor contracts and working collaboratively with stakeholders through the design development and approvals process. Craig is committed to his role as champion for local industry involvement, ensuring the project leaves a positive economic and social legacy for Central and North Queensland.
With Laing O’Rourke awarded Managing Contractor Contract for the Australia Singapore Military Training Initiative (ASMTI), Craig’s presentation provided attendees with an update on project status.
The contract is in two phases – planning phase (30% design complete, Q3 2019) and delivery phase (completion of design and construction). Craig presented the master timeline for the project with 50% of the Schematic design submitted and 90% of the Detailed design due Q1 2020.
Craig touched on innovation in repurposing demountable buildings to relocate and reconfigure training options with no environmental impact or ground disturbance, important in sensitive areas.
