Rockhampton and Capricorn Coast plays host to a celebration of major festivals and events

Our destination sure knows how to throw a great party and following a cracker CQ University Village Festival earlier in August this year, Central Queenslanders are now gearing up with festival fever as a suite of celebrations mark our calendars over the coming months.

Kicking off with Yeppoon Running Festival this weekend, 11th and 12th September 2021, which will see thousands of competitors take to the popular Capricorn Coast soaking up the sunshine and pounding the pavement, we have managed to turn on the perfect sub-tropical Spring weather for a run, jog or walk along the beautiful Yeppoon Foreshore. From the hearty Shanahan Swaffield 42.2km Marathon to the fun-loving Stockland Rockhampton 1.6km family fun run, there is something for everyone.

This Sunday, 12th September, will also showcase the Mount Morgan Wattle Day Festival – a family fun day at the Historical Railway Complex featuring multi-award-winning regional performer, Brad Butcher. The exciting Festival will include market day stalls, wattle seedling giveaways, live entertainment, amusements, activities, demonstrations, food, refreshments and much more.

Bring the whole family to the Rockhampton Heritage Village on Saturday 18th September between 4:00pm and 9:00pm for an evening of great live entertainment, workshops, displays, activities and more at the 2021 Rockhampton Cultural Festival. Stay for dinner and enjoy delicious food from all over the world.

Fast forward two weeks and the picturesque Rockhampton Riverside Precinct will come to life for the 9th Annual Capricorn Food and Wine Festival from 23rd – 26th September. The celebration of local food, hospitality, music and bespoke culinary events showcasing our community and region is once again set to welcome foodies, wine connoisseurs and everything in between. The Festival hosts numerous events both in the Festival Grounds and venues around the region and include degustations, masterclasses, cocktail parties, cooking demonstrations and more. Tickets are now on sale at www.capricornfoodandwine.com.au.

Tropical Pinefest is set to take the stage from 1st – 10th October with the Yeppoon Lions Club and Pinefest Committee ready to make this year’s event bigger and better than ever. The Pinefest Launch Party will kickstart the Festival on Friday with the Keppel Bay Sailing Club Fireworks Extravaganza lighting up the Yeppoon night sky on Saturday, October 9.

From 22-24 October, the Bravus Rockhampton River Festival will bring Rockhampton’s stunning riverfront precinct to life once again, celebrating the river and our city through arts, culture, entertainment, and dining experiences.

One of the best days on the Capricorn Coast is coming! After COVID squashed last year’s celebrations, the Emu Park Lions Club is excited to announce the 2021 Oktoberfest (Emu Park) on Saturday 23rd Oktober. Head down to Bell Park, Emu Park with your best costume for a day of singing, dancing, laughing, eating and toasting.

Dust off your lederhosen and dirndls and get ready to taste your way across a large selection of imported German beer, cider, wine and a range of German inspired foods on Saturday 30th October as the Capricorn Food and Wine Festival presents Oktoberfest (Rockhampton). Transforming Rockhampton’s Riverbank into a Festival of fun, colour and Bavarian celebration, the Oom-pah music will entertain you well into the evening…PROST!

Capricorn Enterprise CEO, Mary Carroll is thrilled to see so many events back on the calendar in 2021 and is encouraging the community to support our local organisers in making these celebrations great.

“Festivals are bringing a new lease of life across our destination, and it is wonderful to see such a fabulous and diverse line-up of events over the coming months,” Mary said.

“The Southern Great Barrier Reef destination is fast becoming incredibly popular for its diverse terrains, beautiful beaches, top class tours, attractions, accommodation, retailers and world-class events, all of which is continuing to put us on the map and increase visitation.”
