2022-23 Achievements

A snapshot of our achievements for the 2022/23 financial year include: 

  • The Capricorn region which includes the three precincts of Capricorn Coast, Rockhampton region and Central Queensland Highlands, welcomed 1,245,000 visitors who stayed 4,582,000 nights to the year ending December 2022.  This represented an annual growth of 12.5% and 28.2% respectively compared to the previous year to December 2021.  Visitor Expenditure of $973 Million to the year ending December 2022 increased by 52.8% from the previous year (2021) and 57.8% compared to 2019.  Source: Tourism Research Australia NVS 
  • We own and operate the Accredited Capricorn Coast Visitor Information Centre in Yeppoon, open 7 days a week which greeted some 17,000 visitors through its doors and answered over 1,900 phone enquiries 
  • Hosted our Annual Major Industry Forum with 12 speakers/topics and 130 people  
  • Hosted (in partnership with Capricornia Chamber of Commerce) the 2022 Best in Business Awards 
  • Delivered 7 Economic Development Forums with 280 attendees 
  • Project managed $50,000 DAF e-commerce project for 8 agricultural businesses, delivering a range of tailored solutions including enhanced connectivity, live event streaming, social media marketing and website commerce platforms.  
  • Hosted 5 Members Networking Nights with 359 attendees (to May 2023) 
  • Written 25 Letters of Support to community groups, Council and partners for funding various projects 
  • Capricorn Enterprise is a Member of 16 Associations 
  • Provided over 100 hours of advisory services to facilitate customer and community participation in Energy Queensland’s 2025-30 Regulatory Determinations 
  • Commissioned and hosted television shows including Ch 9’s Getaway, Merv Hughes Fishing and The Mad Hueys on 7Mate and 7Plus, Ch 10’s The Living Room, Ch 7’s Creek to Coast, Ch 9’s My Way 
  • Supported the Sky News team with contacts and footage for Paul Murray’s ‘Our Town’ episode live from Rockhampton. 
  • Commissioned many influencers including Sean Scott Photography (125K Facebook, 332K Instagram), Finding Alexx (1.4K Facebook, 39.9K Instagram), 4 Boys and a Caravan (16K Facebook, 15.4K Instagram), Emma Shaw – Explore Shaw (19.1K Instagram), Ricky Glaser and Jenise Spiteri (1.5 million followers), Ruben Nutt Photographer (19.1K Instagram) 
  • Hosted trade famils including Petit Fute’s travel writer Manan Chauvin, SydneyFacile/Vanz Travel, Stephen Peters from Expanding Horizons, Mei Teh from Australia & Beyond Holidays 
  • Hosted 11 international tourism trade partners and 4 international media representatives prior to and after their attendance at the annual International Media Marketplace (IMM) and the Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE).  Premium Travel Australie Tours (France), Ikarus Tours GmbH (Germany), Volonline (Italy), Glyndon Travel (USA), Erlebe Fernreisen (Germany), AAT Kings (Australia), Antipodes Travel (France), QAS Holidays (Netherlands), Travel Essence (Netherlands), My Dream Adventures (France), Tourism Australia and Tourism & Events Queensland representatives. 
  • Welcomed Tourism and Events Queensland and Tourism Australia representatives for the annual Capricorn Conversations with Industry workshop. 
  • Presented to Tourism and Events Queensland in Brisbane for ‘In the know with your RTO’, educating staff on what is happening across our region. 
  • Participated in Tourism Australia’s Aussie Specialists, Uncover Our Region Series, doing a deeper dive into regional areas as a training tool for agents and inbound tour operators. 
  • Collaborated with our Southern Great Barrier Reef partners to represent at Australia Marketplace UK & Europe in London 
  • Assisted our Southern Great Barrier Reef partners with the Southern Great Barrier Reef Roadshow, providing an opportunity to meet with key industry partners, wholesalers, and inbound tour operators in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. 
  • Planned, developed, and designed the 2023 Capricorn Coast Insider’s Guide – the primary piece of marketing collateral produced by Capricorn Enterprise.  
  • Developed and distributed over 130 PR content pieces for local media and online platforms 
  • Supported operators to participate in Tourism and Events Queensland’s Seize the Days and Queensland is Calling campaigns
  • Developed a media kit and information for Tourism and Events Queensland to share at the Queensland is Calling media event in Auckland, NZ
  • On behalf of the Southern Great Barrier Reef, attended 85 appointments in Auckland, and 43 appointments in Christchurch, as part of Tourism and Events Queensland’s New Zealand Trade Show
  • Became a member of the Australian Cruise Association (ACA) ensuring our destination remains front of mind for major cruise line companies. 
  • Attended Tourism Australia’s 2023 Destination Australia conference
  • Provided PR support for the official opening of the Capricorn Dinosaur Park Yeppoon  
  • Encourage and supported operators in meeting criteria to be included in the 2023 Best of Queensland Experiences Program 
  • Participated in Queensland Tourism Industry Council’s Regional Tourism Careers Roadshow 
  • Provided event support and promotion via online platforms including social media, TravMedia and websites – visitcapricorn.com.au and livecapricorncoast.com.au.  
  • Developed and distributed a 2023 Master Event Calendar, including significant date claimers with potential to enhance the destination on a major scale and increase visitation. 
  • Delivered a social media campaign which leveraged destination awareness following the introduction of BONZA flights to the region. 
  • Partnered with our fellow Queensland Regional Tourism Network partners, Tourism and Events Queensland, and Caravanning Queensland to promote our state and destinations to southern visitors at the 2023 Caravan and Camping Shows and 4×4 Outdoor Shows in SA, VIC, NSW and QLD.  
  • Partnered with Australian Traveller Magazine (12 months agreement) to deliver a successful destination campaign.  
  • In conjunction with Tourism Australia and Tourism and Events Queensland, assisted in executing a total of 30 content shoots for operators as part of the National Experience Content Initiative (NECI) which will provide operators with still images, raw images, edited video, and B-roll footage (valued at $6K each) 
  • Supported operators to participate in Tourism and Event’s Queensland’s Transformational Experiences Mentoring Program 2.0.  
  • Attended the 43rd edition of the Australian Tourism Exchange from 30th April – 4th May 2023. 
  • Supported 7 operators to participate in the Tourism Trade Mentoring Program ‘2023 Pathway to ATE’ (Australian Tourism Exchange). 
  • Worked closely with Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) to develop the Regional Customer Service Capricorn Micro-Credential Course, supporting operators with their customer service journey. 
  • Continued our successful partnership with Caravan Parks Association of Queensland 
  • Managed 72 ATDW listings (events, localities, free attractions) across the destination 
  • Reviewed and recommended some 12 QDEP (Queensland Destination Events Program) funding applications for Tourism and Events Queensland 
  • Continued advocating for Great Keppel Island Revitalisation by participating in multiple Project Reference Group workshops over an 18 month period to help develop a GKI Master Plan  
  • Received 110,000 unique visits to our regional tourism destination site www.visitcapricorn.com.au  
  • Received approximately 36,000 unique visits to our corporate site www.capricornenteprise.com.au  
  • After launching in 2021, received more approximately 10,000 unique visits to www.livecapricorncoast.com.au (includes Rockhampton region) – a one stop liveability platform -  jobs, education, health, events, real estate, community groups, visitor information and much more 
  • After launching in 2020, received more than 7,000 unique visits to our jobs site www.workincentralqueensland.com.au platform – (also linked within the livecapricorncoast site
  • After launching in 2021, received nearly 6,500 unique visits to www.tastecapricorncoast.com.au platform – Capricorn Coast Food Trail project in partnership with LSC, an Australian Bushfire Recovery Initiative (also linked within the livecapricorncoast site
  • Managed and promoted 9 social media channels
