Keppel Sands Caravan Park recognised with prestigious Queensland refurbishment award

The Capricorn Coast is celebrating another tourism success story, with Keppel Sands Caravan Park taking home the prestigious Refurbishment Award at the 2026 Caravan Parks Association of Queensland (CPAQ) Awards held this week on the Gold Coast.

The award recognises parks that have undertaken refurbishment projects delivering a significant positive impact on guest experience, presentation and overall park quality.

Following a major revitalisation and official reopening in late 2025, Keppel Sands Caravan Park has transformed from a much-loved coastal campground into a refreshed and modern holiday destination, while still retaining the relaxed beachside charm that has made it a favourite with generations of visitors.

The extensive refurbishment included new powered sites, a refreshed 4-star amenities block, landscaped surrounds, a plunge pool, pickleball court and crazy mini golf, significantly enhancing the visitor experience for caravanners, campers and families visiting the Capricorn Coast.

Park operators Murray and Deb McLay said the recognition was an incredible honour and reflected the hard work invested into bringing the park back to life.

“This project has been about creating something really special for visitors and to also benefit the local community,” said Murray.

“We’ve worked hard to elevate the experience while keeping the friendly, laid-back atmosphere people know and love.”

“To be recognised by our industry peers with this award is incredibly rewarding.”

Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll said the award highlighted the strength and continued evolution of the Capricorn Coast’s holiday park sector.

“Keppel Sands Caravan Park has gone from good to great through thoughtful investment, quality upgrades and a genuine commitment to guest experience,” Mary said.

“This award is fantastic recognition for Murray and Deb and reflects the confidence operators continue to show in the Capricorn Coast Region as a self-drive and caravan destination.”

“The revitalised park is not only attracting visitors back to Keppel Sands but also delivering positive economic benefits for the wider community and showcasing the quality of tourism experiences available across our region.”

The CPAQ Awards celebrate excellence and innovation across Queensland’s caravan and holiday park industry, recognising operators who continue to raise the standard of visitor experiences across the state.
