Travel writer Angela Saurine explores family adventure in the Capricorn Region

Capricorn Enterprise was delighted to welcome esteemed Australian travel writer Angela Saurine and her son Ollie to the region from 5–9 October, for a hosted media famil showcasing just how much families can experience across the Capricorn Coast Region.

Designed around family adventure, the visit brought together reef, caves, wildlife, sustainability, local hospitality and plenty of opportunities to explore at their own pace – highlighting the diversity of experiences available within a relatively compact destination.

Beginning in Rockhampton, Angela and Ollie stayed at Discovery Parks Rockhampton before heading underground at Capricorn Caves, experiencing both the Capricorn Explorer and Cathedral Cave tours. Their journey continued with lunch at The Caves Hotel, time exploring the Yeppoon foreshore and a stay at High Valley Dawn Permaculture Farm, where they discovered how regenerative farming, local food and nature-based tourism come together.

The next morning began with breakfast overlooking Keppel Bay at The Waterline Restaurant, before boarding Keppel Ferry Co for the journey across to Great Keppel Island (Woppa). Once on the island, Angela and Ollie settled into their Great Keppel Island Hideaway glamping tent and embraced island life, including a scenic island discovery experience and the chance to explore hidden beaches and snorkelling spots with GKI Boat Hire.

Their island stay also provided the opportunity to meet the Woppaburra Land and Sea Rangers and learn about their work caring for Country, before joining Keppel Dive & Water Sports’ Reef Ranger Tour, combining a family-friendly snorkelling experience with citizen science through the Great Barrier Reef’s Eye on the Reef program.

The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the Capricorn Coast and its Rockhampton hinterland through the eyes of a travelling parent and child – from ancient caves and country hospitality to regenerative tourism, island adventures and the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

A big thank you to all of the local tourism operators who took part in the famil and generously shared their experiences, stories and hospitality with Angela and Ollie. Media visits such as these are an important part of telling our destination story and generating valuable exposure for the region and our tourism industry.
