Project insights and updates featured at Industry Networking Lunch

Friday 16 August’s Capricorn Industry Group Networking Lunch featured presentations by senior Project Managers of three CQ Major Projects plus a regional labour supply overview by the recently appointed Workforce Capability Manager with Construction Skills Qld (CSQ), Kim Hetherington.

Attended by in excess of seventy industry representatives, the Capricorn Industry Group hosted lunch at the Great Western Hotel exceeded the expectations of the majority of attendees who secured insights into Projects including:

  • SWBMTA – ASMTI Project, Laing O’Rourke Managing Contractors update;
  • SWBMTA – Remediation Project, Downer/FKG JV Project overview; plus
  • Clarke Creek Wind Project, Goldwind Australia update.

David Brown, Goldwind’s recently appointed Senior Project Manager, presented a comprehensive update on the Clarke Creek Wind Farm indicating that early works would commence late 2019 on developing the wind farm which would be a three year project involving between 300 and 350 workers during the construction phase ultimately resulting in 20 full time operational jobs when commissioned.

Other features of the Project include:

  • Project located approx. 170km north of Rockhampton;
  • Total project investment – around $1.5Billion;
  • Up to 185 wind turbines generating power to service (the equivalent of) 600,000 Queensland homes (around 4% of Queensland’s electricity requirement).

The project has secured all necessary land access agreements, Governmental approvals and Federal Government Environmental approval.

Project updates on the two Defence Projects at Shoalwater Bay reveal that early works contracts associated with the ASMTI Project should be released by the end of September (expected) with the Remediation Project scheduled to commence by years end.

Both Projects are proposing to conduct Industry training sessions to update regional Business on project pre-qualification and tender/contract requirements.
