Putting Health on the Menu for Queensland Kids

Health and Wellbeing Queensland have launched an exciting new initiative to make it easier for families to choose healthier options when eating out.

Queensland Healthy Kids Menu supports non-fast-food venues to improve the availability and promotion of healthier food and drink options for children.

Having a healthier menu doesn’t have to mean a complete overhaul. Small changes, such as boosting fruits and vegetables and fewer fried food options, can meet the requirements for a Healthy Kids Menu. Easy to adapt guidelines have been designed and tested with food venues in mind so they’re achievable.

The Queensland Healthy Kids Menu initiative is free to any venue within the state wanting to take part. This is a great opportunity for businesses to attract new customers, gain access to promotion opportunities, and importantly, support the health of Queensland’s kids.

The Waterline Restaurant, Keppel Bay Marina was the first to be recognised for their Healthy Kids Menu after winning the Queensland Healthy Kids Menu Award in 2020.

They’re now calling for restaurants and cafes to get involved. Visit https://hw.qld.gov.au/initiatives/healthy-kids-menu/ to find out more.
