Capricorn Coast region champions mental health with over $80,000 raised for Black Dog Institute

Two family-run businesses from Yeppoon and Rockhampton—Baked on 44 and Esdale Sinclair and Associates—have united the Capricorn Coast region in a remarkable show of support for mental health, raising more than $83,000 for the Black Dog Institute.
The funds were raised through the Black Dog Fundraiser Capricornia, a charity golf day held in 2024 and spearheaded by Kristan Casuscelli, owner of Baked on 44, in partnership with his close friend Errol Bambrick.
Backed by a passionate network of local sponsors and supporters, the event proved a powerful demonstration of community spirit and dedication to mental health advocacy.
“Supporting mental health is something incredibly close to my heart,” said Kristan.
“Through this fundraiser, we’ve shown what small business, and a committed community can achieve when we come together for a shared purpose.”
“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who participated and contributed, especially our generous sponsors.”
The funds will be formally presented to the Black Dog Institute at a special event in May, with a representative traveling to Yeppoon to accept the donation in person.
This significant contribution places the initiative among the top tier of donations nationally, reflecting the outstanding generosity of Kristan, Errol, and the broader Yeppoon community.
Mary Carroll, CEO of Capricorn Enterprise, commended the initiative.
“Kristan and Errol have truly set an inspiring example of what community spirit can achieve,” Mary said.
“This extraordinary fundraising effort not only raises awareness for mental health but also showcases the heart and determination that defines our Capricorn Coast.”
The next Black Dog Fundraiser Capricornia event is scheduled for Friday, 12 September 2025, with all proceeds again supporting the Black Dog Institute’s mission to improve the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions.
Looking to build on this momentum, Kristan plans to launch a new initiative at the upcoming event—The Black Hat Initiative.
This project will create and sell custom-designed black hats to raise awareness for men’s mental health in Central Queensland. All proceeds will go toward establishing and funding support networks and vital mental health services across the region.
With one in five Australians experiencing a mental health condition each year, the need for awareness and support is greater than ever. Efforts like these not only raise critical funds but also help to reduce stigma and foster a culture of empathy, action, and resilience.
