Commonwealth Games 2018 – Training Potential in CQ

With the Rio Olympic Games just days away, our local focus is set firmly on the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in 2018.

Capricorn Enterprise Events Executive Ellie Tonkin has been working with the Department for State Development, Livingstone Shire Council, Rockhampton Regional Council, and clubs and venues around the region to work on how to attract teams to train here in the lead up to the April 2018 Games.

There has been very positive response coming from all areas of Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast, with many groups and individuals offering their facilities, expertise, time and enthusiasm to the project. A substantial regional profile is currently being drafted and individual teams will be encouraged to come to the region to utilise our sporting facilities and supporting services, and to enjoy what our beautiful part of the world has to offer.

Events the team is looking to attract to the region include:
– badminton
– basketball
– cycling
– diving
– gymnastics
– hockey
– lawn bowls
– mountain bike riding
– netball
– rugby 7s
– shooting
– squash
– swimming
– triathlon
– table tennis
– weight lifting

If any of our members would like to be involved in some way with attracting these visiting teams, please contact Ellie on 07 4927 2055 or ellietonkin@capricornenterprise.com.au..
