Dinosaurs Experiences Australia “Digs” the Tropic of Capricorn

This week, Capricorn Enterprise was proud to welcome Karen Hanna Miller from Dinosaurs Experiences Australia, alongside Amy Merriweather from Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ), for a hosted visit to the Capricorn Coast and Rockhampton region.

The itinerary showcased a range of experiences that not only highlight our region’s standout natural assets, but also perfectly complement Queensland’s dinosaur story — from ancient landscapes and fossil connections, to hands-on family attractions and wildlife encounters.

A special highlight was hosting Dr Scott Hocknull, formerly with the Queensland Museum and now based at CQUniversity, who joined us at Capricorn Caves — a place he has a decades-long association with, including fossil discoveries at dig sites across the region.

Across the two-day visit, our guests were impressed by the diversity of offerings, from the iconic Capricorn Caves through to the fun and family-friendly Capricorn Dinosaur Park & Mini Golf in Yeppoon. They were also captivated by the region’s ‘living dinosaurs’ at Koorana Crocodile Farm, where close encounters brought prehistoric storytelling to life in a completely different way.

The program also included a snapshot of our broader visitor experiences, with time on Great Keppel Island, visits to Cooberrie Park Wildlife Sanctuary and High Valley Dawn Permaculture Farm, and a hosted stop at Keppel Bay Marina and Waterline Restaurant. The itinerary was rounded out with a Capricorn Coast Scenic Loop drive, a Rockhampton city tour, and a visit to Mount Archer National Park’s Nurim Circuit and Skywalk.

Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll was very pleased to have an in-depth discussion with our guests about the global significance of the dinosaur footprints within the Mount Morgan Mine at the Fireclay Caverns, which have sadly been closed to the public since the 2010/11 rain events.

Our guests joined local operators at our Members Networking Night Sunset Cruise with Freedom Fast Cats on Tuesday evening — a wonderful way to connect, share stories, and experience the region from the water.
