While recent media coverage has focused on elevated Fitzroy River levels, it’s been reassuring to see visitors continuing to enjoy the Capricorn Coast and Southern Great Barrier Reef, with tourism experiences operating as normal.
Over the past week, river flows have seen some freshwater movement reach parts of the Keppel Bay area. As always, the Freedom Fast Cats team has simply adapted daily plans, to ensure guests still experience the very best of the region.
In recent days, the Adventure Tours have been exploring nearby Barren Island — a destination made possible thanks to the large, sturdy vessels Freedom Fast Cats is known for, allowing the team to comfortably access a wider range of island and reef locations when conditions vary.
With excellent visibility, guests have been snorkelling vibrant coral gardens filled with colourful plate coral and marine life and enjoying the signature boom-netting experience with many commenting that it felt like discovering a true hidden gem of the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Both skipper and crew have loved being able to deliver an unforgettable day on the water, with plenty of smiles all round after a challenging start to the year for the region.
Moments like these are a reminder of just how diverse and resilient the Capricorn coastline is – with 18 islands to explore, there are always great options available across varying conditions. Freedom Fast Cats is proud to be welcoming visitors, running tours, and showcasing the reef and islands at their best, and look forward to an exciting season ahead as conditions continue to settle across Central Queensland.
