The Capricorn Coast has welcomed the return of one of its most consistent and high-yield visitor markets, with the popular Travel at 60 Over 60’s Social Getaway tours kicking off for 2026 in March.
Designed specifically for the over-60s market, the fully hosted group holiday program continues to bring a steady flow of visitors to the region, with weekly departures scheduled throughout the winter months — traditionally one of the Capricorn Coast’s key touring seasons.
Each six-day, five-night itinerary invites guests to experience the best of the region, travelling via Queensland Rail from Brisbane and staying in Yeppoon while enjoying a curated program of local tours, attractions and social experiences.
The itinerary showcases a diverse range of Capricorn Coast and Rockhampton experiences — from the natural beauty of Byfield National Park and the iconic Capricorn Caves, to heritage attractions including Archer Park Rail Museum, a visit to Koorana Crocodile Farm, coastal highlights such as the Singing Ship and ANZAC Memorial Walk and Causeway Lake, time exploring Shell World Yeppoon and Wreck Point Lookout, alongside scenic coastal touring and evening entertainment at Footlights Theatre Restaurant.
As part of the itinerary, guests visit the Capricorn Coast Visitor Information Centre, where they are welcomed by local volunteers and gain valuable insight into the region’s experiences and stories. The Centre continues to see strong engagement from these groups, with merchandise from local creative artisans proving particularly popular among travellers looking to take home a meaningful memento of their visit.
Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll said the program plays an important role in supporting the region’s visitor economy during the winter period.
“The Travel at 60 program delivers exactly the kind of visitation our region values — extended stays, strong mid-week occupancy and meaningful engagement with local experiences and businesses,” Mary said.
“These visitors are looking to connect, explore and enjoy the destination at a relaxed pace, and the Capricorn Coast offers that in abundance — from our coastal villages and islands to our heritage and nature-based experiences.”
“Seeing weekly groups return throughout the season is a fantastic outcome for our operators and reinforces the strength of the Capricorn Coast as a welcoming and accessible destination for mature travellers.”
Importantly, the Travel at 60 program supports key destination objectives — delivering consistent mid-week visitation, extended length of stay, and dispersal across the region’s experiences and operators.
The social nature of the tours also aligns strongly with current travel trends, with over-60 travellers increasingly seeking shared, experience-led holidays that foster connection and discovery.
With bookings already strong and additional departures continuing through 2026 and into 2027, the Capricorn Coast remains well positioned to capitalise on this valuable market segment — reinforcing its reputation as a welcoming, accessible and experience-rich destination for mature travellers.
