QTIC advocacy update: Fuel crisis support and industry action

Tourism operators across Queensland are doing it tough right now and QTIC knows many of you are facing significant pressure from rising fuel costs.

Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) is taking action. As the peak body for Queensland’s tourism industry, they are leading a coordinated advocacy campaign to address the fuel crisis and have joined forces with industry bodies including the Caravan Parks Association of Queensland and the Queensland Bus Industry Council to amplify this call. QTIC are also working closely with Regional Tourism Organisations and industry associations to ensure a united voice across the sectors.

QTIC has formally written to both State and Federal Governments and recently held a press conference to bring national attention to the issue. Together, they are calling for immediate, targeted support to help businesses stay open and viable.

What QTIC’s calling for:
Queensland Government (0–3 months)
• Temporary waiver or deferral of fees, permits and leases
• Targeted payroll tax relief
• Regional fuel support for transport and touring operators
Commonwealth Government
• BAS-linked cashflow support or tax credits
• ATO payment deferrals and concessional finance
• Targeted wage support if conditions worsen

They are also advocating for a joint, time-limited stabilisation package to support business continuity and protect jobs, particularly in regional communities where impacts are being felt most acutely.
