CQ TAFE Centre of Excellence announcement

CQUniversity thanks everyone who pledged support towards the Central Queensland TAFE Centre of Excellence. This support resulted in an $8.4 million commitment from Queensland Labor to fund Stage 1 of this game-changing project with the Queensland LNP this week committing $49.8 million to constructing the Centre of Excellence – the full project amount.

This is an incredibly welcome development, as it means the project now has the support of both major parties ahead of the Queensland election, bringing our vision for the future of skills-based training in Central Queensland even closer to reality. The project also enjoys the support of local candidates from most minor parties.

The TAFE Centre of Excellence will have a threefold positive impact on the economic future of the Rockhampton region. In the short term, it will create a host of new construction jobs, employing around 350 people. Longer term, it will host another 300 jobs from expanded TAFE operations. And year after year, our world-class TAFE facility – with the capacity to host 2,500 apprentices, trainees and VET students by 2030 – will turn out highly skilled, highly qualified workers and tradespeople who will help our region continue to grow from strength to strength.
